Help keep public lands in public hands
Among my first memories is of the sound of the Skokomish River rushing by all night long at Staircase in Olympic National Park. The soothing power of the river and the cool damp air are precious to me. I am who I am because of access to public lands - our nation's most precious resource.
I have been camping, climbing trees, scratching my chins on barnacles, hiking, and breathing deep in our amazing forests and on our spectacular mountains my entire life. I hope beyond hope to be able to give my son a life in the outdoors and a future in which he and his loved ones will always know green horizons, open spaces, and the chance to play or simply be outside.
Washington's parks and public lands are facing unprecedented threats. Cruel cuts to staffing at USFS, NPS, NOAA, EPA and across government. Federal funding has vanished into thin air or is now conditioned on a new and cruel compliance. Special interests in and outside government are working to strip protections and drill, harvest, develop, and extract.
This is a photo of my son and me at Franklin Falls - a trail he proudly walked every inch of on his own until the photo-op. This trail was meant to be open through the winter for families to have a safe place to play in the snow. The USFS closed the trail days after the firings were announced.
Trust For Public Land works with local land trusts, the private sector, and governments across the nation to build parks, protect public lands, and build climate resilience.
Please take a stand for your public lands and make a donation this GiveBIG. You will power invaluable programs that build more and more-inclusive parks, activates outdoor education opportunities for students of all age, sequesters carbon, enhances and protects wildlife corridors, and connects us all to the benefits and joys of the outdoors.
Thank you for your support!
