I've been a volunteer with 350 Seattle since 2017. It's an effective local climate organization, building large multiracial and multi-generational coalitions to respond to climate change. 350 Seattle has succeeded because it understands how climate change relates to land use, to transportation systems, to racism, to economic justice, to workers' rights, to war and trade and immigration.
You can't have a healthy planet with "sacrifice zones", and you can't have a healthy society with "sacrifice people".
In the last five years, 350 Seattle has won:
- Climate disaster-proof community centers for extreme weather and smoke in every neighborhood in Seattle
- Solar energy for Seattle schools and school buses powered by electricity
- A better building emissions standard for Seattle than Washington State standards
- Green social housing built to passive-house standards
- Rejection of the billionaire-funded rollback of the Climate Commitment Act and ban on state climate policy
The future doesn't just happen; it is something we build together. Let's build a future that we all can thrive in.
