Flames Promise

About Us

Flame's Promise is dedicated to changing the life outcomes of the most disadvantaged African-American teenagers in Washington and Oregon. We seek out young women 15-21 who are homeless, in foster care, have a juvenile record, or have a parent with an untreated mental health and substance abuse disorder. We use culturally specific programs that have been statistically shown to improve the life outcomes of our clients. We recently received a grant from the Black United Fund of Oregon to support young women in Oregon and would like to provide equal support in both states by asking the Washington community to support us. 

We are a young non-profit, that wants to show that diverse non-profit leadership and culturally specific programs can provide great support for the local community. Every donation counts and we are happy to follow up with any donor that would like to know which young woman was impacted by their donation. 

What is being given to

GiveBig24 donations would go to Royalty's Suitcase Program. We meet with the most vulnerable youth, learn about them in-depth,  and provide a life skills workbook. We return a week later with a custom suitcase to meet their basic current life needs with some additional gifts, in exchange for a completed workbook. We want to make sure each young woman learns basic life skills and is given a moment of feeling known and cared about. See our additional program at flamespromise.org. 

Why our work is important

The long-term societal cost of a young woman heading in the wrong direction can be avoided with early intervention. Between the ages of 15 and 21 young women can use their own agency to change their circumstances when given the proper resources and support. Flame's Promise wants to improve the life outcomes of those who are most at risk. We are happy to provide a more in-depth donor brief upon request.
