Since 1935, the grass roots consumer organization you know as Washington Council of the Blind has made a significant difference in the lives of countless blind and visually impaired citizens of the state of Washington through advocacy, leadership, support, and education.
As a member-driven nonprofit with no paid staff, WCB relies on members and friends to reach out in communities across the state to share experiences, knowledge, and encouragement to anyone directly impacted by vision loss or those with loved ones who are dealing with vision loss.
United Blind of Walla Walla is proud to support Washington Council of the Blind and we invite you to join us.
UBWW was established in 1987 and became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2006. We promote equality, opportunity, and independence, as well as educate, advocate, support, and promote the lives we’re meant to live as blind and visually impaired individuals in Walla Walla and the surrounding area.
Some of the items we have provided and continue to provide on a local level include:
- Fellowship and support for those new to vision loss.
- Programs that are relevant to vision loss.
- Partnering with Delta Gamma Whitman students to fund accessible pedestrian signals (audible) for intersections in Walla Walla.
- Assisting the Kirkman House Museum in creating an accessible tour using audio recordings of the printed material.
A few of the state and national items we are involved in include:
- Scholarships for blind and visually impaired students
- State newsletter and national magazine
- Tracking legislation of interest to blind and visually impaired people
- Representation on boards and advisory groups such as Washington State School for the Blind, Department of Services for the Blind, and Washington Talking Book and Braille Library
Your donation to WCB will support the programs and services we need in this state and in our Walla Walla community. Thank you for your support!
