Since 1935, the grass roots consumer organization you know as Washington Council of the Blind has made a significant difference in the lives of countless blind and visually impaired citizens of the state of Washington through advocacy, leadership, support, and education.

As a member-driven nonprofit with no paid staff, WCB relies on members and friends to reach out in communities across the state to share experiences, knowledge, and encouragement to anyone directly impacted by vision loss or those with loved ones who are dealing with vision loss.

SICCB is proud to support Washington Council of the Blind and we invite you to join us.

SICCB has been serving as a resource for blind and visually impaired members of Skagit and Island Counties since 2016 -- to educate, advocate, support, and live the lives we’re meant to live.  We’re the local chapter of WCB and we’re excited to have the opportunity to raise awareness of WCB and our chapter as well.

Help us promote opportunity, equality & independence of blind & visually impaired Washingtonians.  We reach out to our neighbors in Skagit County and the Islands,  empowering Blind Abilities by sharing knowledge and experience of how we can fully participate in those communities!

Understand what we can do to access today’s technology to allow full inclusion in the activities that appear to be hampered by loss of vision.  Whether it’s learning to navigate public transportation to arrive at a described tour of the Seattle Art Museum;  a hands-on visit to the Heritage Flight Museum in Burlington, Washington;

a bird-song identification stroll through the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, under the direction of Audubon Society volunteers;

participating in a leadership event breaking boards

 and other barriers to inclusion;

or a friendly voice explaining how to access audio description on TV, use a smart phone or computer without needing to see the screen, and identifying the many opportunities that enable a person with limited vison to live a full, productive and independent life – That is what we are about!

As important as your contribution is to assist our chapter in making these connections, even more so is sharing information on who we are and how we can be reached.  Our bylaws require that the majority of our members be visually impaired, but membership is available to those interested in supporting these goals.

Contact Chapter President Andy Arvidson at (425) 218-0190 or arvidsonandy@gmail.com. Join us in this Mission!

Your donation to WCB will support the programs and services we need in this state and in our Skagit and Island Counties community.  Thank you for your support!
