Hampton and Michael love a good adventure. As roommates and longtime participants at The Arc of King County, they had fond memories of our annual camping trips. But when the COVID pandemic put those trips on hold, they longed for the experience of being out in nature once again. This year, thanks to the dedication of our team and the support of our community, their dream became a reality.
Hampton and Michael had the goal to camp, and Coordinator Jake and Manager Robb were determined to help them find the perfect spot. After careful planning and collaboration, they settled on Cornet Bay Campground near Deception Pass. With breathtaking views, fishing opportunities, and cozy cabins to ensure comfort in unpredictable weather, it was the ideal destination.
The excitement was palpable as Hampton and Michael packed their gear (perhaps a little extra, just in case!) and embarked on their long-awaited adventure. Over four days, they fished, explored, and soaked in the beauty of Whidbey Island. They crossed trails, took in ocean views, and even encountered local wildlife. As they packed up their spotless cabin on the last day, one thing was certain—they had found joy, independence, and a renewed sense of connection with the outdoors. Their first words upon returning? “We definitely want to do this again next year!”
At The Arc of King County, we believe in the power of community and the right of every individual to pursue experiences that bring fulfillment and happiness. Hampton and Michael’s journey back to the wilderness was not just about camping—it was about dignity, independence, and the relationships that make these moments possible.
When you give to The Arc of King County, you are making these opportunities a reality. Your generosity ensures that individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have the support to live, learn, work, and play in an inclusive community. It fuels programs that center the voices and choices of people like Hampton and Michael, empowering them to shape their own lives.
As the year comes to a close, we invite you to invest in a community where everyone belongs. Your gift today helps sustain our vital programs and affirms that every individual deserves meaningful experiences and adventures—whether that’s a camping trip, a new job opportunity, or simply the ability to engage fully in their community.
Make your gift today at The Arc of King County. Together, we can ensure that Hampton, Michael, and so many others continue to dream, explore, and thrive.
