This Giving Tuesday, help Jesus is God Ministry serve the homeless and needy in South King County.
Jesus is God Ministry is an outreach church ministry that goes out to the streets daily in South King county to reach the poor and forgotten with the love and the power of Jesus Christ. Our tools are bibles, food, clothing, hygiene items, blankets, and resources for housing and for mental health/addiction. Our goal is to reach one person at a time with God’s love, over and over again to encourage them that coming back into society is a good thing.
OUR MINISTRY
- Weekday Outreach - Ministering to the suffering and providing resources like clothing, blankets, hygiene packs and sack lunches (150/week)
- Th/Sun Community Meals — Free dinners are provided for the homeless at our church every Thursday and Sunday
- Celebrate Recovery Meetings — NA, AA, buddy system for those who are new to recovery
-
Clean & Sober Housing Program — Housing for ex-convicts and homeless men, helping them get back on their feet
- Men's Bible Study
- Monthly Women's Programs — Events to bring women together and provide a safe space to help them heal from trauma, addiction, sex trafficking, etc.
- Ongoing Discipleship Programs — Bible study, counseling, etc.
- Bed for the Night — Our church hosts up to 25 homeless people each night with a cot and bedding
- Toys for Tots & Kids Programs — We also host fundraising and seasonal programs to help kids in low-income families, such as collecting back-to-school supplies and Toys for Tots during the Christmas season.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
There are several ways that you can support Jesus is God Ministry:
- Volunteer! We are always looking for volunteers to come help hand out with our weekday outreach, community meals, and other events.
- Donate! Your financial gift — large or small — makes a HUGE difference! We are also always looking for hygiene items, clothing, sleeping bags, sleeping cots/bedding for and similar items and we welcome these donations as well.
- Connect! If you know of a business that donates items such as food, clothing or hygiene items, please connect us !
OUR NEED
We hope to use the funds donated during Giving Tuesday to support the following initiatives in 2023:
- Purchase a passenger bus (with a handicap lift) to facilitate year-round outreach so the people we're ministering to on the streets can rest in a warm place.
- Hire a ministry administrator to manage programs, coordinate volunteers, and identify donors and grant opportunities
- NOTE: Jesus is God Ministry pastors DO NOT receive a paycheck — we donate our time and support ourselves independently
- Hire a plumber/contractor to fix and update the bathroom that we provide at the church for showers.
- Expand our elder program, which supports elderly people who are homeless or have a criminal record from a long time ago, with caregiving and housekeeping support.
- Create a Benevolence Fund to support our community financially on a case-by-case basis (funds would be used to help members of our program to afford costs for treatment, pay program fees for their housing, etc.)
Beyond 2023, our "stretch" goal is to open a large building on Pacific Hwy South to serve those suffering from the fentanyl epidemic, the sex trafficking epidemic, homelessness and the effects of low-income housing in the Des Moines, Kent, Auburn and Federal Way area.
Pastor's Note:
We’re not a religious organization, we’re a relationship organization — we are about developing our own personal relationships and taking what we’ve learned to help other people in our community, especially those who are suffering.
We believe in loving one another (there are 551 mentions of this in the Bible!) and we believe we are called to lay our life down for our neighbor — that’s what we’re doing here in South King County. Our ministry has an emphasis on leadership, and we believe in raising up strong leaders and workers to help others.
Most importantly, our ministry is based on the truth, not on money. With the support of people like you, we can do what God has called us to.
