Sunrise Outreach Center of Yakima is a non-profit located in Yakima County.  We were incorporated in February 2009 as a 501c-3 non-profit.  We are strategically located where low-cost community solutions are most needed throughout the county.  We focus on four primary objectives: Feeding Families, Housing our Homeless, Community Mobilization and Organizational Networking.  The first two are what we do: the latter are essentially how we do them.  Our approach is three-fold: provision of basic services (which are temporary), intervention, measurable sustainability with supportive services and prevention which interrupts the cycle of intergenerational poverty, primarily through education.

We currently operate:

Six food pantries located in Yakima County

Two weekend Meal Backpack programs that provides 175 students meals during the weekends who would otherwise be without food.

A Sandwich Outreach Program which provides sandwiches, water, and hygiene items to the Homeless

Case Management for the Homeless to assist them in getting services

A community Help Center located in our Yakima Office.

We complete all of this with volunteers and three full time and one part time employee.

Our greatest funding need is in the food pantry program.

As the only organization in Yakima County operating 6 food pantries, Sunrise Outreach Center (SOC) has a large impact in addressing localized hunger.  Last year we distributed 37,856 weekly food boxes and distributed 2,271,360 lbs. of food to the people of Yakima County.  Our food pantry program serves over 29% of all households using food pantries in the county.   Our six pantries serve the communities of Yakima, Sunnyside, Mabton, Wapato, White Swan and Wiley City.  Two are located in the Yakima Nation (Wapato and White Swan) and the third (Mabton) boarders the Yakima Nation.  Our food pantry programs have the largest community impact in these 3 pantries.  In White Swan 93% of the community's residents utilize the food pantry.  In Mabton the number is 87% and Wapato the number is 73%.    In White Swan 80.7% of the population are Native Americans. in Mabton 90% of the population are Hispanic / Latino Population, and in Wapato 84% of the population are Hispanic / Latino and 6% are Native American. On average SOC distributes 3154 household food boxes serving 11447 individuals.
