Mission

At the Washington Ferret Rescue, we are here to ensure the safety, health and the well-being of ferrets that have been turned over to us. We are here to take care of the abandoned, outcast, displaced and forsaken ferrets until they are adopted or until they pass away. We are a no-kill animal shelter. We educate the public about companion pet ferrets.

What We Do

Washington Ferret Rescue & Shelter is a no-kill shelter caring for ferrets in the Puget Sound area of Washington State. We will take in any unwanted or stray ferrets in the area. We give them all needed medical care, and if they are healthy enough for adoption, we carefully screen potential homes, and place them for life. Ferrets with significant ongoing medical issues are placed in our foster program. With this program the ferret is placed for life in a home which is specifically trained to care for ferrets with the particular condition this ferret has. The shelter retains legal ownership of the ferret and is thus able to provide for medical care for the life of the ferret.

Ferrets staying in our shelter are given the very best loving care available.

Because of COVID-19, we had to close our shelter to the public (Saturdays), although we are now making adoption appointments. We will be re-starting our public outreach programs that we had to cancel for over 2 years. This is making adoptions to forever homes, placement in foster families and relinquishment of ferrets to the shelter more difficult. We have to ensure the safety of our volunteers and their families, as well as our ferrets during this time. Because of the curtailing of public activities, our fundraising has been severely restricted and yet our operating expenses for the daily care and health care of the ferrets has increased. Please help us to be able to provide for the ferrets during this time of crisis. Thank you! All funds go for the care of the ferrets - we are totally a volunteer operation.
