Mission

Washington Farmland Trust protects and stewards threatened farmland across the state. We keep land in production by making it accessible to a new generation of farmers.

Description

At Washington Farmland Trust, we envision a future where local farms can deliver on their promise of healthy food, fertile soil, and productive local economies. When this future is equitable and just, farmland, food growers, wildlife, and communities can all thrive together.

Over the last half a century, some of Washington’s best soils have been irreversibly lost to development. At the same time, many farmers plan to retire in the next decade without a successor in place. As new farmers pursue agriculture, they face countless barriers, from land affordability and systemic racism to the threats of climate change on their businesses.

Since our founding, Washington Farmland Trust has conserved 34 farm properties, totaling 3,747 acres. Today, the needs of Washington's land and farmers are calling for a new strategy to create a sustainable, equitable, and resilient future.

At Washington Farmland Trust, we committed to:

• Permanently protect the most valuable agricultural lands in Washington.

• Help farmers thrive as business owners and stewards of the land.

• Pursue partnerships that advance climate resilience and food sovereignty.

• Co-create opportunities with those who have been systematically excluded from agriculture.

As we broaden our scope to protect more farmland across the state, connect farmers with the resources that they need, and keep the land resilient for the long haul, we hope you'll join us. Make a gift today to help sustain a future for farming in Washington.
