OUR WHY
In 2023-24, VOT will be serving children immersed in the trauma that came with Generational Trauma exacerbated by COVID, including food and housing insecurity, homelessness, families grieving elders lost to COVID, and fear of the virus. These factors increase the odds the children we will serve are experiencing developmental delays. You Can Help. Your support today will create a space that allows children to receive services at a faster rate by professionals that care.
Mission
Voices of Tomorrow (VOT)’s mission is to preserve immigrant and refugee children’s identity through culturally and linguistically responsive child-focused programs. We work to eliminate inequities that impact the growth, development, and kindergarten readiness of our community’s children. We serve children aged birth-5, their families, and their family child care (FCC) providers. Most people VOT serves come from immigrant and refugee families; 85% are of East African descent.
Project Description
Voices of Tomorrow recently purchased a commercial building, which we will transform into the first East African Early Learning and Family Center in the region. With the capacity to serve over 180 children and families, this space will offer programs on healing from trauma, behavioral health services, and developmental preschool.
Many of the families we serve have experienced traumatic events, and as a result, are suffering from generational trauma. Our Early Learning Center will provide a safe haven for families to start the healing process and break the cycle of trauma.
However, we need your help to make this vision a reality. We are seeking donations to cover renovation costs so that we can create a space that is conducive to healing and growth. In our Early Learning Center, children and parents will have access to counseling, resources, referrals, and training rooted in racial equity work and trauma-informed healing.
What will your donation be used for?
We will use your donation to pay for construction costs or renovation of existing property to create a center which will prioritize serving low-income BIPOC children, youth, and families who currently lack access to this type of facility.
Our plan is to renovate our new commercial space and retrofit it to be an early learning classroom and family center. Project activities include:
- Remove the popcorn ceilings to make it environmentally safe
- Upgrade the pipes to ensure there is an easy flow
- Upgrade the electric system and wiring
- Demo walls to expand the space to accommodate 4 classrooms serving children.
- Remove current flooring and replace it with new ones
- Install outdoor play area
- Painting and finishes.
How much will this cost overall?
Anywhere between $2 million and $3.5 million, per our partners and architects at Environmental Works.
Your donation today will bring us a little closer to our goal.
On behalf of children, families and caregivers, thank you for choosing to donate to Voices of Tomorrow.
