$20,000 Goal

The need to connect people to each other and the natural world has never been greater. We envision a world where our adventures extend beyond the reach of our own personal enjoyment, one where all people can confidently enjoy and are inspired to protect the outdoor experience.

A special matching opportunity: every donation counts!

A Mountaineers member has offered to give $1,000 for every 10 unique GiveBIG donors between April 22 and May 7. Our goal: 100 donors and $10,000 matched.

Your donation:

  • Protects the natural world and the outdoor experience

  • Expands access to the outdoors by building an inclusive outdoor community

  • Shares outdoor skills with anyone who wants to learn

Make a difference by investing in a community of learners, leaders, advocates, and adventurers in the Pacific Northwest and beyond.

Your donation protects the natural world and the outdoor experience.

The Mountaineers has always been a fierce defender of the natural world, advocating for landscape conservation, climate action, public lands funding, and sustainable & equitable access.

We listen and tell each other the stories that shape our conservation ethic. And we speak through our actions when we give back by maintaining trails and restoring habitat.

In response to increasing recreational use of public lands, intensifying climate change, and a swiftly evolving political environment, we must strengthen our capacity to protect the outdoors for future generations.

  • Low impact recreation education equips thousands of members, activity participants, and event attendees to reduce their carbon footprint and impact on the environment.
  • Conservation staff lead Outdoor Alliance Washington, advocating with lawmakers and land managers on behalf of more than 75,000 recreationists to protect public lands and the outdoor experience.

  • Advocacy 101 and other advocacy resources equip Washingtonians to translate their passion into tangible policy outcomes for conservation and climate.

  • Mountaineers Books uses the power of images and storytelling to illuminate key environmental issues and spark passion for the natural world.

Your donation builds an inclusive outdoor community.

Since 1906, The Mountaineers has been a place for outdoor enthusiasts to come together, deepen their connection to the outdoors, and conserve our lands and waters for future generations. In 2025, donations ensure that everyone can find belonging outdoors.

  • Youth Partner Programs bring outdoor education opportunities like snowshoeing, rock climbing, navigation, and more to young people.
  • Scholarships help people of all ages access outdoor education and activities, including summer camp, after-school programs, wilderness first aid, and courses such as Basic Alpine Climbing or Canyoning.
  • Leadership training helps outdoor leaders incorporate equity and belonging into every phase of a course or trip and foster authentic community connections.
  • Mountaineers Books help adventurers of all skill levels get outside and allow every reader to see themselves in the natural world, whether planning an expedition or taking a journey vicariously.

Your donation shares outdoor skills with anyone who wants to learn.

We lead innovation in outdoor education. In response to growing interest in learning outdoor skills, donations allow us to invest in volunteers, teaching and gathering spaces, and expert resources. Learners are welcomed into a community of personal responsibility, collaboration, connection, fun, and friendship.

  • Community-centric courses and seminars share knowledge so that everyone can safely and confidently enjoy the natural world, and strengthen community through the magic of outdoor play.
  • Leadership Development seminars infuse professional development into our community of outdoor leaders and educators, featuring topics like risk mitigation, learning facilitation, and fostering emotional safety and an inclusive environment.
  • Leadership Development grants invest in training for people who give above and beyond as leaders in the outdoor community.
  • Mountaineers Books lead people deeper into the activities that bring us joy, health, and connection. Guidebooks help people uncover urban trails, navigate waterways, summit peaks, and connect with the natural world... across the world! As a nonprofit publisher, the work of Mountaineers Books is driven by values and quality.
