Mission

The DOVE Project is a domestic violence and sexual assault agency that provides survivor services, prevention education and community programming in an effort to reduce interpersonal harm.  DOVE stands for Dignity, Opportunity, Voice, and Empowerment.

Description

Like a house that is built with inadequate materials, constructed, where things are let go, humans cannot thrive without a strong base. We support the well-being of our people from healing and childhood trauma and intimate partner violence to building skills that promote healthy relationships. We help instill that every person should feel valued and this will help the generational nature of violence.

We want our community and all of its members to thrive…not just survive. Now more than ever, support is needed for those experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault in their homes during this pandemic. Our service structures have adjusted to offer more availability and flexibility in hours dedicated for advocacy for this vulnerable population.

What does domestic violence advocacy look like? It involves support for surivvvors as they file the needed legal documentation for protection orders, emotional support all all hours of the day, online support group, support to develop actionable priorities to feel safe both in their homes and in their relationships. It also involves financial support for relocation expenses and supplies for safety and resiliency. Advocacy is a marathon, not a sprint and your support helps pay for the advocacy hours needed to support the survivors living on Vashon Island with limited access to resources.
