The Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington mission is to advance the profession of structural engineering through scholarship, education, research, and outreach.

Description

The Structural Engineers Foundation of Washington is the non-profit arm of the Structural Engineers Association of Washington, the local branch of the National Council of Structural Engineering Associations. While SEAW's purpose is to support its members with continuing education opportunities and professional development, SEFW's purpose is to advance the profession of structural engineering and promote structural engineering as a career to the general public.

What does SEFW support?

SCHOLARSHIPS: SEFW partners with SEAW in providing scholarships to Washington-resident students in their structural engineering studies, with 70+ scholarships granted since 1985.

EDUCATION: SEFW is committed to providing educational opportunities to inform professionals and students, as well as the general public about structural engineering. Educational events and initiatives include the Fall Forum lecture series, a document library of educational materials about careers in engineering, and support for related video and movie productions.

RESEARCH: SEFW provides grants for certain research initiatives sponsored by the SEAW Disaster Preparedness Response program. Future SEFW initiatives will include providing grants to select graduate student research projects at statewide universities.

OUTREACH: SEFW has forged relationships with schools and organizations that bring structural engineering into the community. We fund field trips for students, bridge building competitions, mentoring opportunities, and more. Our partners have included WashingtonSTEM and the Washington Alliance for Better Schools (WABS), which recently facilitated our appearance at several STEM expo career fairs for Puget Sound school districts, reaching thousands of students.
