Mission

The mission of the Renton Schools Foundation is to increase and enhance educational opportunities for all Renton School District students by providing financial support through the fostering of community partnerships.

The foundation helps bridge the gap between inadequate state and federal funding and the cost of high-quality learning opportunities for every child, every day in every classroom.

Description

The Renton Schools Foundation, RSF, was originally established in 2009, to help cover the gap between local, state, and federal funding and the money necessary to fully fund high-quality learning opportunities for every child.

We cultivate school-parent-community partnerships by; Collaborating with Renton School District administration, teachers, and principals; PTA and parents; businesses; civic leaders; higher education institutions; professional education organizations; and other area education service organizations.

We support the vitality of our community: The 14,000+ students in the Renton School District are our most valuable resource. But education does not just impact students and teachers - the quality of our schools is directly related to the vitality of our community as a whole. Having great schools increases pride in our community; provides a trainable and educated workforce and so much more. Students today become the voters of tomorrow in a world with issues that are increasingly more complex, and their future votes will impact everyone.

This year your gift will fund the "Principal's Emergency Fund".  In November of 2021, Bob Hodges, an alum of Lakeridge Elementary, asked the foundation to consider a pilot program in six schools called the Principals Emergency Fund. This fund would provide a resource gap for urgent basic needs, removing barriers and allowing students to be students and focus on learning. Here is just one example of this fund in action.

• Recently a family had a significant house fire. At the end of that school day, they had nowhere to go for the night, and the principal was able to get them a hotel nearby. The result was that the kids were at school the next day. Despite such a traumatic event, this fund allowed them to experience a little less disruption to their lives.

Our goal is to provide this fund to ALL 16 elementary school in the Renton School District starting next year.  - See the YouTube testimonial
