Mission

Our mission is to celebrate and connect the roots of American choral music (especially shapenote and Shaker music) to contemporary works by living composers, particularly local Pacific Northwest composers.

Description

Radiance is a Seattle-based professional vocal ensemble specializing in the performance of American choral music. The group primarily focuses on performing contemporary works by living composers, including local Pacific Northwest composers. Radiance also performs music from the shapenote and Shaker traditions to celebrate and connect the roots of American choral music to contemporary works. The group provides a highly rigorous environment for young musicians developing their singing skills, musicianship, and performance experience.

Throughout the pandemic, we have been seeking creative and engaging ways to share musical experiences virtually. We decided to take our music to the great outdoors, making nature our concert hall. For our "Choral Destinations" 2020-21 season, we produced three documentary-style concert films performing outdoors in three different Pacific Northwest landscapes: The Sea (Vashon Island), The Hills (Cle Elum), and The Fields (Leavenworth).

We are thrilled to return to in-person performances with our 2021-22 season, "Elemental." We are experimenting with light, sound, and space, combining multiple artistic elements into each musical experience. With smaller audiences due to pandemic limitations, we are relying more heavily on donations this year to continue our work.
