Mission

To provide learning experiences through play based on the child's individual needs, interests and abilities that will build a foundation for future academic and life skills. Our vision includes quality care for the child, assistance in meeting the needs of the community, and providing a setting where all can work together for a common interest.

Description

In 1970, Primm ABC Child Care Center was organized through the foresight of Reverend Edward N. Smith, Jr. and Ella Mae Mitchell Smith, and members of Primm Tabernacle A.M.E Church. Friends of Primm at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Mercer Island also assisted.  During the past 52 years, Primm has served over 2500 children, 900 families, and 225 employees including youth workers and high school students. A second site was acquired at MLK Elementary School from 2004-06. Its closure was due to School District restructuring. As we continued to expand, Primm added a before and after school program at Dearborn Elementary from 2006 -2012.  Primm provides quality childcare care for about 90 children ranging from areas such as South Seattle, Renton, Federal Way, Central Area, Beacon Hill and Seattle north end areas.  Many of our families that we serve are low income, working families who rely on the subsidies such as the City of Seattle, King County and WCC to pay in full or part of their childcare costs.  While most of our children come from single-parents families, mostly women and/or grandparents raising grand or great grand children facing severe economic challenges they are very active partners in their children's education and committed to building strong foundations for their children's development. Primm was one of the first centers to provide a high quality childcare center which was available to low-income families in South Seattle. Primm is enrolled in the Washington State Early Achievers rating system for child care providers.
