Mission

Our mission is to help educate, inform and engage youth and the general public around voting and election issues in order to increase civic involvement in democracy in Washington State and beyond.

Description

Fix Democracy First Education Fund (FDFED) was established in 2007 and is the education wing of Fix Democracy First, a statewide organization working to help achieve fair elections and government policies that reflect the will of the people and not the power of money. We are dedicated to informing and educating the public around voting rights and access, alternative systems such as ranked choice voting and proportional representation to overcome gerrymandering, campaign finance reform, election security, and other democracy related topics, in order to increase and sustain citizen participation.

We host a weekly "Democracy Happy Hour" program, which includes an overview synopsis of democracy, voting and election issues in the news, as well as focus on other democracy topics. We also host other programs on a regular basis including democracy related film screenings, panel discussions, book events, information sessions, and more.

In addition, we also have our WON (Women in Office Now) program, a statewide program that consists of training modules and individual support sessions to help and enable women to successfully run for office in Washington state. The training sessions include live events, which are recorded and archived for viewing on demand by women who are considering or planning to run for office. Many of the sessions feature special guest speakers, including women elected officials and experts on various topics. 

We are also currently developing a new youth outreach program to expand youth civic engagement in the state. This program would train teachers and students to develop hands-on civic projects the students would choose that would impact their communities.
