Mission
Connecting body and mind to transform lives through dance. We envision a joyful and collaborative community that knows how to move and how to move the world!
Who We Are & What We Do
Founded in 1981, the Creative Dance Center (CDC) nurtures creativity and learning through meaningful and joyful dance experiences. We believe ALL people have the right to express themselves and find empowerment through dance.
We invite all ages, sizes, personal and cultural identities, backgrounds, sexual and gender identities, abilities and disabilities to dance with us.
“CDC is a nonprofit dance organization with an amazing inclusive culture. My trans teen has found a welcoming home here. However you and your kids show up, you will feel welcome and celebrated.” ~ CDC Parent
Financial Aid is available to make programming accessible and available to all.
Please donate now and invest in the youth of today, artists of the future, and educators eager to utilize our inclusive teaching methods!
PROGRAMMING INCLUDES:
CREATIVE DANCE CENTER SCHOOL
Classes are offered for caregivers and infants, toddlers, and young children; PreK; children and teens; and adults – many in their 70th decade and beyond! We believe dancing across the lifespan improves health and well being while building a strong community of caring, creative humans.
KALEIDOSCOPE DANCE COMPANY
CDC's resident modern dance group, Kaleidoscope, is made up of youth ages 7-17. Your gift amplifies the voices of children and teens, fosters young artists, and helps bring Kaleidoscope to schools making performing arts accessible to hundreds of children.
MARY'S PLACE
Mary’s Place Kids Clubs aim to reduce trauma and provide a safe place for children. Beginning in 2016, CDC teaching artists have shared dance with young children and families at Kids Club locations including downtown Seattle, White Center, Burien, Kenmore, and Bellevue.
ADAPTIVE BRAINDANCE
CDC provides space for people with disabilities to engage intellectually and physically with flexible material that centers their imaginative experience as much as their physical one. Our Adaptive BrainDance co-teacher is nonspeaking and uses a letterboard to communicate. Adaptive BrainDance is offered at no cost to ensure access for all.
CREATIVE ADVANTAGE
We are a Community Arts partner with The Creative Advantage working with Seattle Public Schools to bring dance to Title l schools to increase arts access and address issues of racial equity and arts education. Our teaching artists and Kaleidoscope Dance Company have shared dance with hundreds of students at James Baldwin, Bryant, Cedar Park, Olympic Hills, and Wedgwood elementary schools.
PROFESSIONAL LEARNING
CDC is a leader in the field of dance education and professional development for educators, dance teachers, teaching artists, early childhood specialists, occupational and physical therapists, and parents. Your donation means a teacher here in Seattle or as far away as Taiwan will share the transformative power of Brain-Compatible Dance Education with their community.
