Description
Classroom in Bloom is a non-profit organization established to enrich education through school gardening for K-12 students in the Methow Valley School District of Okanogan County, WA.
The centerpiece of our effort is a 2-acre, student-led garden. Through this creative space we create experiential, inquiry-based learning opportunities and teach art, natural history and science education. We cultivate an understanding of sustainable food systems and foster a love of fresh and healthful foods. We do this through hands-on learning in our school garden where we encourage a strong work ethic, promote stewardship of the natural environment and empower kids to eat fresh food they grew with their own two hands!
In partnership with the Okanogan School Garden Network,
Classroom in Bloom works with students and student-led gardens at every elementary school throughout Okanogan County. Together we are breaking barriers as we reframe the future of school meals, increase nutritional snacks with garden produce, host professional trainings and field days, and implement Farm toSchool programs that help meet the needs of every child in rural TitleI schools.
Our students at the Methow Valley School District harvested over 6800 pounds of produce last fall which is eaten by children straight from the garden as prepared and harvested snacks, donated to the school and prepared by school staff into beautiful school lunches, and donated to the community during the height of our summer harvest season.
