Community Alliance for Global Justice

Mission

CAGJ strengthens the global food sovereignty movement through community education and mobilization. We build solidarity across movements through grassroots, community-based organizing, and a commitment to ending all forms of oppression. We work to transform unjust trade and agricultural policies and practices imposed by corporations, governments, and foundations. We promote alternatives that embody values of racial, social and environmental justice, collective liberation, solidarity, and community.

Description

CAGJ's AGRA Watch campaign works closely with partner organizations in African civil society to challenge the Seattle-based Gates Foundation in their support of the biotech industry and market-based industrial agricultural development. CAGJ's Food Justice Project mobilizes our members and the public through two primary programs: Solidarity Campaigns, to organize and support campaigns in solidarity with local family farmers, food producers, and farmworkers who are fighting for the right to good food, rights for food chain workers, and food justice globally; and Educate for Action, offering community-based workshops and "Teach-outs" educating about food sovereignty movements, and encouraging action. CAGJ's Trade Justice work connects the dots between food and agriculture policy and trade agreements to mobilize for a just global economy.

CAGJ also facilitates Rise Up! Summer School, a free political education and leadership development program. During our virtual Summer School in 2020 - 2022, participants engaged with background resources on our current industrial food system and discussions on a path forward guided by food sovereignty. We are excited for more learning during our upcoming Rise Up! School 2024.
