BlackPast is dedicated to providing a global audience with reliable and accurate information on the history of African America and of people of African ancestry around the world. We aim to promote greater understanding through this knowledge in order to generate constructive change in our society.
Blackpast.org is a free website housing the largest online resource for the history of African Americans and people of African descent around the world. Entries provide accurate, reliable information on the people, places, events, and episodes that have shaped African America and Global Africa since the beginning of human history. With more than 8,000 entries, over 200 long-form articles, along with speeches, primary documents, Music Library profiles, and historical timelines (with over 800 entries), eight bibliographies (with more than 5,000 books), 180 newspapers and 240 museums in both the U.S. and Global Africa. In 2022 the website reached 6.3 million visitors from more than 200 nations around the world. In 2023, BlackPast.org realized the landmark achievement of 50 million unique site visits since it was formed in 2008.
