Backbone Campaign amplifies the aspirations of "We the People" with creative strategies and artful activism to manifest a world where life, community, nature, and our obligations to future generations are honored as sacred.

Description

Backbone’s dual mission to amplify the aspirations of “We the People” with creative strategies and artful activism tools and to promote long-term solutions to some of our most vexing problems by putting rail in the public interest may seem disconnected and miles apart. On the contrary, we know both aspects of the organization are crucial and interconnected.

For more than 20 years, Backbone has led the way in pioneering a creative set of activism tools that are visually powerful, nimble, and effective in shining a light on corporate greed and political corruption. With our democracy under threat, we are ready to meet these challenges head-on, providing the tools and training to everyday people so they can speak out and visually amplify their collective outrage. Today, this work is more important than ever before.  

Our Solutionary Rail work to electrify America's railroads and open clean energy corridors continues to build momentum. The fight for our democracy is in the forefront of our minds, but it is crucial that all of us look beyond this moment to when we will build a future that works for everyone.  

Solutionary Rail offers a positive populist vision of our future that calls on the best in us and leaves no one behind. This strategy is uniting unlikely allies from all walks of life and every corner of the country, including railroad workers, fence-line communities, policymakers, universities, unions, and community and technical experts. Solutionary Rail and our allies are building critical bridges to one another that will be instrumental in the future.

The most impactful way you can give is with a recurring monthly donation to our Lumbar Club. We have a goal of 30 new Lumbar Club members during Give Big. These ongoing donations give us a reliable funding stream that we can count on each month, which makes a huge difference to our organization’s bottom line.

PS: Since January 20th we have:

• trained more than 200 people in overpass bannering and light projection,
• projected images in partnership with SEIU focused on workers' rights, immigration, and illegal detention on buildings in Seattle, Portland, Kansas City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Minneapolis, and Boston,
• deployed 55 freeway banners in 5 locations over 15 consecutive weeks, and
• shipped 30 bannering toolkits across the country.
