Assistance League of Seattle removes the barriers to education for at-risk, disadvantaged students, giving them hope and inspiration for a brighter tomorrow.

Description

Chartered in 1962 as the 31st chapter of the National Assistance League, Assistance League of Seattle is an all-volunteer organization helping remove barriers to education for students of all ages. Monies raised through our Thrift Shop in Wallingford, Annual Auction, Grants, and Donations fund our three philanthropic programs: Operation School Bell, Enrichment Scholarship Program, and Financial Aid for Education. We believe that education is the best and most lasting answer to generational poverty and the poverty of spirit that afflicts so many of our neighbors. The Operation School Bell program provides a new wardrobe to over 3,000 students annually, who would otherwise go without. Over the years we've returned $6.5 million to our local community including new school clothes for 18,194 students through Operation School Bell; summer camp scholarships for 544 teens through the Enrichment Scholarship Program; and college scholarships for 187 adults through Financial Aid For Education.

Assistance League of Seattle is a registered 501(c)3 organization and managed by a Board of Directors. Over 150 members and community volunteers contribute over 25,000+ hours of service annually. Operating under a rigorous set of guidelines mandated by our national organization, we are required, as a condition of our charter, to submit a detailed review of all activities and finances at the end of each fiscal year. Last year our rate of return to the Seattle community was an impressive 87%.
