Who We Are
Wallingford Community Senior Center (WCSC) is a dedicated space for positive and healthy aging. A place where our members are empowered to live meaningful, enriched lives through their aging journey. We create programming and provide services that are informed by real-world knowledge and hands-on experience, that honors our members’ goals, and never takes a one-size-fits-all approach. And we’re located at the heart of a vibrant community, showing the wider world that older adults are essential and deserve an inclusive place to call home.
When it comes to creating programming, we have an important body of experts to whom we consult: our participants themselves. Every quarter we listen to our members at a Member Advisory Forum to learn what they want and how we can make it happen. Whether it's new offerings at lunch, providing more opportunities for counseling, or adding a new EnhanceFitness exercise class, we find a way to make it happen. Our job is to support them so they can help themselves. Our programming is not just entertainment; it's a bridge that connects people in a growing, fast-paced community. Our goal is to help our members build long-lasting bonds, making friends and finding companionship that lasts after they walk out the door.
Change is part of life for both our members and us. That’s why we work hard to remain a constant in the lives of older adults and the community as a whole. Our longevity after 44 years proves our commitment. We’re resilient in the face of change. Our people know: at the end of the day, WCSC will be there.
Why We Need Your Help
Thanks to your support and the grace of our community, the WCSC team has worked hard to bring exciting new developments to the center.
We now have several partnerships with senior housing complexes in the area, which has allowed us to welcome more seniors and connect them with activities and resources that otherwise aren’t accessible to them. Overall monthly participation is up 44% since the beginning of the year, and our goal for 36 attendees at Community Lunch is on track: the unique number of individuals enjoying lunch is up by 34%!
Thanks directly to your support in our last fundraising campaign, we have added several new health and wellness programs like advanced strength training, world dance, and the extremely popular seated SAIL fitness class. We are listening to participant feedback and plan to increase popular class offerings, but we can’t do it alone.
All of this success has created more demand for the high-quality programs and services that WCSC is known for. As we continue to explore ways to improve and grow our operations, we are confronted with the unavoidable truth that more funds are needed to keep up with this exciting growth.
That’s why we want to raise $11,500 for general operating support in 2024. These flexible funds will help us plan for the future and allow us to stay ready to fulfill the visions of our members and meet the needs of older adults in our ever-changing community.
Thank You!
We are so grateful to every one of our donors - past, current, and future. You make it possible for us to maintain and grow our services and programs that over 1,200 older adults rely on. Every dollar helps an elder access a community and support they need to age in a healthy and vibrant way, on their own path. Thank you!
