We are WA-BLOC, a community-based organization rooted in south Seattle. Our mission is to build and nurture intergenerational leaders through transformative education and revolutionary social action.
Did you know that transportation is one of the biggest barriers to student participation in summer learning programs?
Each year, families report transportation costs and logistics as the #1 barrier to attending a summer program. Students and families depend on reliable transportation to get their children to and from school—and summer is no different.
This Give BIG, your donation helps get kids to Freedom Schools!
For 10 years, WA-BLOC's very own Freedom Schools summer program has remained 100% FREE OF COST for families. But transportation is our second-largest expense, right behind paying livable wages for our incredible educators and staff.
This summer, transportation for 25 days of programming and field trips,
will cost $20,500.
Providing secure, dependable daily transportation via bus is essential to ensuring our program remains accessible and equitable for the scholars who need it most. Our 2025 Scholar class includes 65 K-5th grade students from across Seattle’s South End.
Your Give BIG gift directly supports their ability to show up and thrive.
💛 $12 = 1 round trip for a scholar
💛 $60 = 1 week of transportation for a scholar
💛 $120 = 1 week of transportation for TWO scholars
💛 $300 = full summer transportation for 1 scholar
Let’s get every scholar on the bus.
With your support, we can remove one of the biggest barriers to summer learning—and make sure all of our scholars have the opportunity to learn, lead, and grow in community.
In solidarity and gratitude,
WA-BLOC Team
