Mission

Fostering a love of reading for Vashon Island youth, one book at a time.

We seek to spread joy, increase reading engagement, and promote a love of lifelong learning.

Description

The Vashon Reads Bookmobile, "Tosho" (Japanese for books), is providing greater access to literacy by delivering high interest books to our island's youth. Our bookmobile is run by an incredible group of volunteers that deliver books across the island in the cutest retired Japanese Fire Truck. We operate a lending library for children ages 0-18, with emphasis on those whose families may not have the means to travel to the local library on a regular basis. Books are delivered directly to the homes of island youth where they exchange them for new ones during bi-monthly visits.

Donations will support our operations (e.g., bookmobile gas money and maintenance) and the purchase of more high quality/interest books to keep our growing readers engaged.

Our primary means for achieving our mission is through our bookmobile deliveries, however when enough stable financial support is achieved, we will expand our services to include no-cost one-on-one tutoring, enhancing literacy for our community's youth.
