Mission

At Thunder Mountain Farms Equine Rescue it is our mission to provide shelter, care, rehabilitation, sanctuary, and adoption services for abandoned, abused, neglected, slaughter-bound, or unwanted horses while also providing life enriching experiences for youth and adults of all ages through volunteering, community service, education, mentor-ship, networking and collaboration.

Description

Since our inception, Thunder Mountain Farms Equine Rescue has helped support & rescue over a 4000 horses! Our foremost goal is to rescue at-risk horses, to rehabilitate & place them into loving homes. We're passionate about providing a well-balanced & focused care plan for each of our resident equines. On average it costs $2000 to vet, rehab & re-home a horse.  Since COVID, expenses have skyrocketed and the demands on the rescue have doubled.  At any time, we have an average of 25 horses residence at the farm. Our team is known to travel through the night to transport an abandoned horse, sometimes from across the state; some have orphaned foals as their wild herds are exported to slaughter. Our rescue is often the last hope for these magnificent animals.

Rehabilitation takes time, then the adoption process can begin. Re-socialization is more effective with human interaction and it takes a village to save a horse.  We credit our success to compassionate volunteers and the villagers -- that's you, our donors.  Horses began as our primary mission, but we soon realized the value in sharing our horses with people to produce an escape from life's struggles or to gain traction in their own recovery.  Winston Churchill once said, "There's something about the outside of a horse that's good for the inside of a man."  We're committed to collaborating with the greater community, to be ready to respond to help save slaughter bound, abandoned, and neglected  equines. We're uniquely positioned to mentor people, young & old, on a working farm with fresh air and 20 acres of outdoor space, views of the Cascade mountains and Mt. Rainier. People come to the farm to volunteer, connect with animals, learn new skills, build relationships and perform community service.   PLEASE DONATE!  ONE TIME OR A MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION DONATION -- ONLY WITH YOUR SUPPORT, CAN WE CONTINUE OUR GOOD WORK!  "IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO SAVE A HORSE!"  DONATE TODAY AND JOIN OUR VILLAGE!!

Volunteer is Simona and she is snuggling with 33 year old Thoroughbred mare "Gertie".  Gertie and her herd mates came to the rescue after their owner died.  With the other 4 horses rehomed, Gertie is now at the rescue in Sanctuary due to her age.  Sweet old mare!Horse "Albert", surrendered by his 94 yr old owner who loved him to pieces but after suffering a stroke, could no longer care for him.  Albert will soon restart his training to get back under saddle since it's been a few years.
