Mission

A politically active organization, Seattle Subway accelerates construction of a NYC-style subway for the Puget Sound by boosting expansion of Sound Transit's 100% renewably-powered Link light rail system. For our subway network to provide a true public benefit to people and achieve mass adoption, we are adamantly devoted to ensure we build a system that is (1) time competitive with driving a car, (2) reliably frequent and uninterrupted service, (3) a positive user experience, and (4) accessible to all.

WHAT DOES SEATTLE SUBWAY DO?

Seattle Subway is the ONLY organization actively working to expand existing Link light rail network to all urban centers and urban villages in Central Puget Sound.  Help us fully connect our region with light rail and help us ensure that taking the light rail is preferable to driving a car (*we are not anti-car: we are pro-transportation options).

WHY SHOULD I DONATE?

Seattle Subway is an all-volunteer organization, so 100% of your dollars go directly to the programmatic expenditures proven to build support and further progress for light rail expansion.

Description

Our Seattle Subway Vision Map of the future is NOT an unrealistic 'pipe dream'. Seattle Subway does real and effective political work to purport and realize Link light rail expansion and we have the receipts to prove it.  Seattle Subway touts an impressive list of major accomplishments, including:

1. Growing the scope of Sound Transit 3 from a limited $15 billion dollar plan into a 3.5x bigger $54 billion dollar plan that constructs 62 miles (100 km) of additional light rail serving 37 new stations.

2. Worked on and led passage of Senate Bill 5528 in the 2022 Washington State Legislature with Senator Jamie Pedersen. Senate Bill 5528 provides newfound authority to levy billions in additive revenue for independent cities, counties, and subareas (or any combination thereof) inside the RTA boundary to fund further Sound Transit expansion and investment.

3. Accelerating construction timelines for Graham St Station, 130th St Station, and Boeing Access station 5-10 years ahead of schedule.

HOW DO WE DO IT?

We work with elected officials and stakeholder groups to keep rapid transit investment prioritized and on track. We engage with communities to hear and lift up their voices so that their values can be acknowledged and addressed. We maintain a strong online presence with over 24K gross social media followers. And we build coalitions with partner organizations and agency partners to prioritize the projects that serve riders the best.

U District Station (2021) changed the game for city residents. Now people can zip between U District and Westlake Station in just 8 minutes!  More neighborhoods than ever want the fast and convenient light rail that U District enjoys. That's why Seattle Subway is working to pass a Sound Transit 4.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR SEATTLE SUBWAY?

Get ready! The two most important years in our organization's history have arrived. Multiple competing stakeholder interests and project proposals are under Sound Transit's consideration. The outcomes of these decisions will directly affect how good (or bad) our $54 billion Sound Transit 3 investment will serve riders and - and as result - how viable a Sound Transit 4 expansion will be.

We also were successful recently in codifying a city-wide subway expansion map in the Seattle Transportation Plan.

We need your funding more than ever to ensure all of this large-scale and critical projects are handled properly and will serve riders as best as possible for centuries thereafter.
