Give BIG for Scots!
$275 Raised
The Seattle Scottish Highland Games Association was formed to promote and provide opportunities for educating the public by sponsoring a forum where people come together to learn, appreciate, and preserve Scottish and Celtic cultures. We've been bringing Scotland to the Pacific Northwest for over 70 years through the skirl o' the Pipes and Drums, the beauty of Highland Dancing, the brawn of Scottish athletics, and the sharing of clan history! Inspiring new generations to discover their stories.
The Association is dedicated to the furtherance of the dance, music, athletics, and customs of the Scottish people and to the continuance of the Gaelic culture. The Association's programs consist of sponsoring Scottish Highland Games each year, sponsoring a fundraising gala event each year, and awarding scholarships to young men and women wishing to further their expertise in Scottish and Celtic culture or study in Scotland.
The Association will foster, encourage, preserve, and aid in the study and practice of traditional Scottish and Celtic culture by sponsoring an annual Scottish Highland Games, which will include games, sports, music, and dancing. Competitions will include piping, drumming, dancing, and athletics, as well as presentations of fiddle and harp performances and Scottish country dancing. The Association will foster and encourage the study of music, such as bagpipes, and traditional Scottish dances, such as the Highland Fling, the Sword Dance, and the Reel O Tulloch.
The Association will sponsor an annual highland games and clan gathering for the purpose of fostering Scottish customs, skills, and traditions. The event will showcase and provide competition in the areas of Scottish music, dance, attire, athletics, and aptitude. The Association will also participate in Christmas and other holiday parades, ethnic festivals, and will hold a Heather Ball. These activities will be a venue for providing family-oriented events for experiencing the traditional music, dress, and food of Scotland.
The Association promotes Scottish and Celtic history and culture by providing scholarships to young men and women wishing to further their expertise in Scottish and Celtic culture, history, arts, and Gaelic. The Association will also make scholarship awards to musicians, dancers, and others involved in pursuing Celtic art forms and to students planning attending school in Scotland.
