Mission

To foster community integrity through rigorous bilingual and bicultural education, developing students' academic strengths and cultural sensibilities, while nurturing compassionate and engaged citizens. Addressing the achievement gap in the K-12 educational system, Amistad fills a void in Seattle by creating a space where native Spanish speaking students can thrive academically, linguistically, socially, and culturally, where all students develop critical skills to overcome differences, bringing together individuals, families, and communities.

Actually, Seattle Amistad School is an independent school, two way (Spanish- English) serving toddlers (starting at 1 year old),  Pre-K, (3 – 5 years old), and kindergarten through 8th grade. At Amistad we radically commit to EXCELLENCE, JOY, JUSTICE and LIBERATION for black, brown, immigrant and indigenous children and families and american people. We nurture bilingual, bicultural, biliterate students who use their gifts to create the future for their communities, families, and themselves. For teachers, children, and families, Amistad feels like home. Additionally, Amistad is WA State Nonprofit Corporation, with 501(c)(3) status.

Our students come from three equal language groups-native Spanish, native English, and bilinguals. Currently, 75% of our students are students of color; and over 65% of our students receive financial aid through reduced tuition cost.

Seattle Amistad School has an important contribution to make in the lives of underserved children and families, as well as the greater community, by closing the achievement gap and providing children with a culturally rich education. Our Cultural Programming is an essential part in making our mission become a reality, and our continued expansion will help all our students to have adequate time with each artist.
