Raindancer Wild Bird Rescue

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Raindancer Wild Bird Rescue is dedicated to the rehabilitation of orphaned, sick, or injured birds, and the reintroduction of these birds to the wild. We are also committed to public outreach and education to promote conservation of species and habitats.

Description

Raindancer Wild Bird Rescue was founded in Olympia, Washington to rescue and rehabilitate corvids and birds of prey, including eagles, hawks, falcons, osprey, vultures, and owls. Our facility consists of a clinic and several outdoor enclosures for treating and conditioning birds before release. We work with veterinarians to diagnose and treat illnesses and injuries. As the only wildlife rehabilitation organization in Thurston County, we receive birds from throughout Thurston County, as well as from Cowlitz, Grays Harbor, King, Kitsap, Kittitas, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, and Yakima counties because of limited resources in those areas. Most of the birds we receive are orphaned, sick, or injured as a result of human activities. Birds are admitted after being hit by vehicles, flying into windows, entangled in barbed wire or fishing line, electrocuted by power lines, shot, or poisoned after consuming baited rodents or lead ammunition or fishing sinkers. Our calls come from concerned citizens that have found the downed birds, as well as from veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, tribal enforcement officers, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
