Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank

A nonprofit organization

Mission

In downtown Seattle, the Pike Market Senior Center strives to make each day better and safer for older adults; the Pike Market Food Bank serves people of all ages who face hunger. Together, we provide services, activities, and support that lead to more self-sufficient and fulfilling lives.

Description

The Pike Market Senior Center & Food Bank (PMSC-FB) promotes healthy aging and food security in Downtown Seattle.

The Pike Market Senior Center serves a population of over 1,300 older adults who are aging in poverty. Over 90% of the clients are low-/no-income, most live alone, and nearly half are homeless. This population is at risk of inadequate nutrition and social isolation. To best serve our members, we are open every day, offering free meals, access to social workers, and a variety of healthy and fun activities. For a sense of scale, we serve over 50,000 meals each year.

The Food Bank serves over 3,900 of our downtown neighbors. Between walk-in customers, home deliveries, and ready to eat offerings, over 60,000 bags of food will be distributed in 2023. We are very much a community-run resource, with strong ties to business, schools, and our downtown community, who provide volunteers and food and fund drives to keep our shelves stocked.

Every neighborhood needs a senior center and a food bank - and we've got Downtown Seattle covered!
