Mission

Orca Network is dedicated to raising awareness about the whales of the Pacific Northwest, and the importance of providing them healthy and safe habitats, and finding ways for people to work together to protect the rich, beautiful, diverse habitats and inhabitants of the Salish Sea.

Description

Orca Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based on Whidbey Island, WAPhoto by Jill Hein.

Orca Network provides the public with an opportunity to learn about orcas and other local marine mammals and engage in community science by collecting whale sightings to gather important data for researchers. Through email reports, community education, and a dynamic website and social media pages, participants are given constant reminders of the impacts we each have on Pacific Northwest waters and offered solutions and opportunities to reduce these impacts. The Whale Sighting Network encourages shore-based whale watching, with a map of public viewpoints throughout Puget Sound to assist in following whales as they pass through our neighborhoods.

The Langley Whale Center educates and inspires through exhibits, marine mammal specimens and interaction with educated naturalists. Free of charge, the Whale Center is accessible to all, and a favorite affordable family activity.

All of Orca Network's projects focus on educating and involving people to learn, care about, and take action on behalf of the whales in the Salish Sea.
