Mission

Oak Harbor Main Street Association's mission is to actively promote a vibrant, historic waterfront community.

Historic downtown Oak Harbor is a waterfront community surrounded by the beauty of the Olympics, Cascades, and the Puget Sound. Follow the gateway signage leading to a warm, friendly, and welcoming downtown.

Our Historic Downtown is filled with public art, locally owned shops, and unique restaurants.

Description

Community is the key word in our historic downtown. Our goal is to created a lively community center where people want to come and spend time exploring and enjoying the area. This does not happened overnight but develops over time with the support of visionary leadership, dedicated volunteers, and strong partnerships with local government, businesses, educational institutions, and community members. Property owners are encouraged to invested in the success of our downtown showing their pride by improving their buildings and facades. The recent streetscape has incorporated sustainable practices, honoring the community history and enhancing the downtown.

We are a Washington Main Street Community. The Main Street Four-Point Approach is a unique preservation-based economic development tool that enables communities to revitalize downtown and neighborhood business districts by leveraging local assets- from historic, cultural, and architectural resources to local enterprises and community pride. It is a comprehensive strategy that address the variety of issues and problems that challenge traditional commercial districts.

The Success of the Main Street Approach is based on its comprehensive nature. By carefully integrating four points into a practical downtown management strategy, a local Main Street program will produce fundamental changes in a community's economic base.
