Mission
Using Signing Exact English (S.E.E.) and oral communication, we prepare deaf and hard-of-hearing children to be self-confident, articulate and academically-competitive learners, and engaged community members.
Description
Serving children in the Greater Puget Sound Region, Northwest School for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Children (NWSDHH) is the only organization of its kind in Washington State, preparing deaf and hard-of-hearing (D/HH) children to compete academically and achieve personal and professional success on par with their hearing peers. Our school serves students from preschool to 8th grade and our Family Conversations program serves families with D/HH children from birth to age three. We are also proud to offer additional support to D/HH students and their families through our school district support program and Signing Exact English classes.
Our goal is to equip these children for success in both the hearing and deaf worlds. NWSDHH has the distinction of being one of the few schools for the deaf whose research-based teaching method has been shown to dramatically improve academic and social outcomes for D/HH children. Our student body is very diverse. We have students from a wide range of places, ethnicities, and backgrounds, making NWSDHH a well-rounded and inclusive school environment.
Our mission is to nurture the talents and skills of each child while expanding and enhancing the programs that make their success possible. We are asking you to help us grow our programs, including expanding services in our Spanish-speaking families program. We want to enrich existing services, including investing in and implementing a new reading curriculum. And finally, we want to continue to invest in needed technology and tools -- we’re updating assistive devices and sound receivers for students, and investing in new laptops for our teaching teams. Your generosity will provide us with the tools for success -- we invite you to join us!
Our goal is to raise $10,00 during this event!
