Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington

A nonprofit organization

Mission

The Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) is dedicated to preserving and sharing Japanese art, language, culture and history. The JCCCW works to fulfill its mission by providing a welcoming environment and providing access to the multi-purpose facility for people and community based organizations are encouraged to meet, share, inform and conduct programs and activities.

Description

Established in 2008, the Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (JCCCW) operates under the auspices of the Nikkei Heritage Association of Washington (NHAW) which was founded in 2003.  During the 1900s, the language school and community service organizations were established to benefit the first generation Japanese immigrant families; today the JCCCW is open to anyone who is interested in Japanese art, culture and language. We encourage visitors to tour the historic buildings to discover the Northwest Nikkei museum - a collection of display cases interspersed throughout the facility filled with artifacts and documents collected over the last century. As a community center, the "J" provides space to its members and other NPOs for meetings, workshops/classes, practice (including two dojos) rooms and space for small events.  Office space is also available for short/long term lease. We are located in the area formerly considered Japan-town and our primary focus is Japanese art, culture and language, however, currently embrace a broader perspective on the definition of community and identity. All programs and activities of the "J" are open to everyone, regardless of their generational, socio-economic, educational or ethnic background.
