Moving Image Preservation of Puget Sound

A nonprofit organization

Mission

Moving Image Preservation of Puget Sound is a non-profit 501-(c)(3) corporation which preserves and makes accessible Pacific Northwest history and culture by assisting archives, libraries, museums and other institutions with the conversion of analog video recordings to digital formats according to archival best practices.

Description

Moving Image Preservation of Puget Sound (MIPoPS) was formed by a group of local archivists grappling with how to transfer the deteriorating videotapes held by archives, libraries, museums, historical societies and art and heritage organizations. MIPoPS has digitized tapes for Wing Luke Museum, Seattle Audubon Society, Seattle Art Museum, Spectrum Dance, Scarecrow Video, and Seattle Archdiocese, among many others, and its ongoing screening series, Moving History at Northwest Film Forum, showcases highlights of digitized video. MIPoPS also advises archives, colleges and universities and others looking up to set up similar digitization "hubs" in their region, and is currently working on an NEH-funded DV Rescue project.

Recognition

MIPoPS thanks the National Endowment for the Humanities, National Historical Publications and Records Commission and 4Culture for their generous support.
