Mission
Our mission is to enrich and inspire our communities through performance, outreach and education.
Description
Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra has strong ties to the entire Eastside Community. Since its inception in 2012, LWSO has brought programming to the community including Music from Destiny - 'Video Games at the Symphony', numerous Christmas Pops concerts, an annual Education Concert for local elementary students, an annual Sensory Friendly Halloween Children's Concert for our youngest and most sensory sensitive audience members and incredible Masterworks concerts led by conductor Michael Miropolsky.
Our theme, Music Unites Us All, is a guiding force when it comes to our program planning and we strive to embrace this even more in the coming years.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, it was critical that we employ as many of our musicians as possible, so with the help of grants from King County, City of Bellevue, 4Culture, ArtsWA, Arts Fund and the Wyman Youth Trust, we produced several virtual programs to be enjoyed by all at no charge to our audience.
October 2020 - Sensory Friendly Halloween Children's Concert
December 2020 - The Holidays with Lake Washington Symphony Orchestra
March 2021 - Education Library for students and music educators
With these three programs, we were able to hire 49 musicians, employ a music studio, rent space in four churches and hire a female owned and operated production studio. We are incredibly proud of this work and we hope that we have brought joy in a difficult time.
During late spring and summer of 2021, we performed live, with small ensembles, at the Redmond Town Center and Redmond Saturday Market. With these safe, outdoor opportunities, we were able to employ 30 musicians and start bringing live music back to our communities, all at no charge. These opportunities were incredibly successful and brought a lot of joy to the shoppers, none expecting to hear a string quartet at the farmer's market, or a brass quintet on 9/11.
On October 30th, we brought back a live version of our Sensory Friendly Halloween Children's Concert with small ensembles. This allowed 22 musicians over two hours, to perform in a live setting while staying safe, and bringing back fun for our youngest and most sensitive audience members. It was a fun morning with about 70 kids and their families.
