Mission

The King County Search and Rescue Association (KCSARA) exists to promote cooperation between its 9 Member Units, to represent and be their unified voice and to advocate for matters that affect or require the support of multiple Units. KCSARA became operational on February 1, 1965 as a 501c non-profit, volunteer group.

Vision: To empower SAR Operational Units and their Citizen First Responders.

Description

For over 70 years King County Search and Rescue volunteers have worked in partnership with both county and state emergency agencies. It's estimated this volunteer workforce saves King County approximately $8.1mil in taxpayer funding yearly. Volunteer first responders assist in wilderness search and rescue, missing persons cases, evidence searches, and disaster response. In 2020 over 573 volunteers of King County Search and Rescue responded to 227 callouts resulting in 33,000 response hours and 323,500 miles in personally owned vehicles.

Regional growth, improved access to remote wilderness areas, and social media emboldening the public have only increased the demand for quality Search and Rescue. While outdoor recreation accounts for more than $21.6 Billion in economic activity each year in Washington State, our Search and Rescue units are largely left to fend for themselves.

King County Search and Rescue Assocaition (KCSARA) endeaors to support our search and rescue units through advocacy, collaboration, unification, and fundraising so our search and rescue units can maintain their focus on responding to those in need.

Your donation today helps us maintain effective training programs for SAR volunteers, fuel and maintenance for our vehicles, supplies and equipment in the hands of our responders, radio infrustructure, technology aids and tools, and funding to maintain our SAR headquarters in Snoqualmie.
