Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge

The Friends of Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is a non-profit membership organization that champions the protection of wildlife and their habitats by broadening public understanding of and engagement in the natural and cultural resources of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge.

Through the support or organization of various educational programs, community events, and volunteer opportunities, the Friends work to foster a deep connection between people and nature. Throughout the year and during events like BirdFest & Bluegrass, they are able to offer guided tours, workshops, and activities that highlight the unique biodiversity and rich history of our Refuge. By working closely with local schools and community groups, the Friends of Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge aim to inspire future generations to become stewards of the environment, while also using social media and online outreach to share Refuge updates, fun facts about nature, and other engaging content to broaden their audience and enhance understanding of what a wildlife refuge offers. These efforts not only contribute to the preservation of vital ecosystems but also enhance the quality of life for both wildlife and the Ridgefield community.

Funding donated to the Friends does more than pay for the salary of their one employee, it goes directly back to the Refuge, supporting programs like the Junior Duck Stamp contest in Washington State, the necessary features for the soon-to-be-completed Community Nature Center (to make it welcoming, accessible, and educational), Field Trip educational materials and tools for students to do habitat restoration, bus funding, and special events that welcome communities far and wide, like BirdFest & Bluegrass in October.
