Roxy Renovation Phase II with Energy Upgrades

Your donation will be matched!
The M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust supports the Phase II Renovation with a 1:2 match!

Good progress so far!
-Efficient LED stage lighting is installed and saving lots of electricity.
-Roxy Theater's roof and heating/cooling will be complete this spring.
-Plans are drawn up for the long-needed, ADA-accessible backstage addition.
-Over 3/4 of the funds needed for the entire Phase II Renovation are already committed.

Next step:  Build out the back of the Roxy!  Keep those kids out of the mud!

FMAC will finish Phase II of the Roxy Theater renovations by adding a backstage.  Currently, adult actors and OnStage children must enter the stage from outdoors--often in pouring rain or snow or intense heat!  Managing 70 children entering and exiting the stage is a crisis! Participants who cannot manage stairs, like our current student with spinal bifida, cannot access the stage from the open-air "green room."  The Roxy addition will not only provide shelter for actors and crew, but backstage spaces for rehearsal, storage, set construction, and, most importantly, an ADA-accessible classroom.

All these improvements will assure the long-term viability of the Roxy Theater and the capability of its programs to serve the community and its youth for decades to come and help drive the economic well-being of eastern Lewis County.

We are all pulling together!  This is happening!  Please give as generously as you can, any amount helps.

The Roxy Back Story:

In 2003, Fire Mountain Arts Council (FMAC) purchased Morton's Roxy Theater--a dark house since 1980.  With $740,000 worth of community and grant support, the first phase of the Roxy's renovation enabled the theater to reopen with performances of South Pacific in July 2006.  Some 10,000 patrons/year have used the theater ever since, except for during the pandemic.  Today, programming is back full swing.

FMAC's active community theatre performances, concerts, weekly first-run movies, and OnStage Youth Theatre Education Program create a dynamic, creative core to our community.

Up to 70 children per session participate in OnStage's after-school and summer programs.  They build self-confidence and develop team-building and theatre skills. The children then perform for the community and area grade school students. OnStage welcomes children with disabilities and offers scholarships for low income families.

FMAC also operates the Barbara Clevenger Johnson Art Gallery, featuring local artists, and the Tiller Arts & Events Center, hosting community meetings and classes and supporting the live shows.

Volunteers are key to all aspects of FMAC.  FMAC has no full-time staff.

FMAC serves the rural communities of eastern Lewis County and southeast Pierce County and works to help break the cycle of poverty prevalent in our region.  Except for FMAC programs, the nearest cultural opportunities are at least an hour away.  FMAC buildings are a community anchor on Main Street, Morton.  The many participants and patrons coming and going to the Roxy Theater bring life to downtown Morton and significant patronage to local businesses.
