Since its inception in 1972, The Crisis Clinic has been a vital mental health and referral resource to the residents of Thurston and Mason counties. Our phone lines operate 24/7. Our services are 100% anonymous and confidential.
Our Vision:
Our vision is a community where everyone in crisis gets the help they need to survive and thrive.
Our Mission:
We provide compassionate support and resources to empower those in crisis every hour of every day.
The Crisis Clinic stands as a unique lifeline for Thurston and Mason Counties, offering an anonymous crisis support hotline that has remained easily accessible since 1972. Our devoted team of volunteer Crisis Support Advocates, equipped with over 50 hours of rigorous training, delivers diverse and essential mental health support to our community. Together, we provide crisis intervention, valuable resources, and referrals to ensure all members of the community have access to 24/7 crisis support, free of charge, 365 days a year.
In the last 50 years, we’ve become familiar with the shared concerns of our community. We provide our Crisis Intervention services disproportionately to marginalized populations (BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, youths, the houseless community, etc.) who often experience a lack of suitable and accessible resources.
While the needs of callers can vary, our calls often come from:
Individuals seeking companionship
Callers in need of a mental health referral
Parents worried about the mental health of their teenager
Those experiencing long-term depression, contemplating suicide
Houseless callers seeking information about local shelters after being displaced
Our Crisis Support Advocates are highly skilled in engaging each caller with planning in order to meet any immediate needs, and often help the caller practice coping strategies as a part of de-escalation from crisis. Every call has the potential for crisis intervention, community resource referrals, empathetic listening, and constructive problem-solving.
While many needs have corresponding community services to match, the challenge for stressed callers often lies in identifying and navigating their options. Recognized by other agencies, mental health professionals, hospitals, and emergency services, the Crisis Clinic is frequently recommended because we promptly provide callers with the resources they require when they seek help. Our mission is to empower community members in crisis every hour of the day.
Our commitment to Thurston, Mason, and Washington State extends beyond the phone room; In light of the rising suicide rates in America, we also conduct Suicide Awareness and Prevention presentations in local schools and throughout the community with the goal of filling knowledge gaps about subjects that are historically difficult to teach around. Our presentations highlight:
The warning signs of suicide
Tools and strategies for coping with emotions
The ability to identify certain risk factors
An understanding of how to support friends and loved ones in seeking help
Avenues for developing strategies for seeking help from safe and trusted adult(s)
Additionally, we've established a dedicated Teen/Youth Helpline to make reaching out to us less intimidating for the younger crowd. Our teen Crisis Support Advocates are taught skills in peer-to-peer crisis intervention and support, not only to support the caller, but to assist the teen volunteers in developing problem-solving skills as they move into adulthood.
Ultimately, our goal is to meet each caller with the compassion, resilience, and hope that anyone in crisis deserves. Your support can significantly contribute to our efforts in meeting the diverse needs of our community.
If you or someone you love is in crisis, get the help you need today by calling The Crisis Clinic.
