Mission

Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) creates opportunities to discover the joy of making music, provides a full orchestral program, promotes personal responsibility, and fosters educational excellence, all of which enrich our communities.

Description

BYSO uniquely complements and builds upon both school music programs and private instruction. We serve over 600 students, ages six to 21, in six orchestras, a percussion ensemble, two flute ensembles and three week-long summer camps. BYSO welcomes children of all races, ages, ethnicities, religions and financial circumstances. Our students reside throughout the greater Seattle area. Students are placed according to their ability, not their age, and participate in weekly rehearsals, retreats and a series of formal concerts. We encourage development of musicianship and self-confidence, and provide a wholesome and challenging atmosphere for young musicians who need the extra stimulation of working beyond school programs.
