The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.

Description

Down the street, across the country and around the world, the American Red Cross delivers help and hope during people’s darkest hours. Powered by dedicated volunteers and generous supporters, we are there for nearly every imaginable crisis:  

• A family forced to evacuate their home due to a wildfire finds safe refuge, food and comfort at a Red Cross shelter. 
• A new mother fighting to live is given lifesaving blood. 
• A deployed military hero is reconnected with family members facing an emergency. 
• A neighbor suffering from cardiac arrest is saved by a CPR-trained bystander. 
• A vulnerable child halfway around the world is given the protective measles and rubella vaccine.

These widely varied services can be distilled into our powerful mission: alleviating human suffering in the face of emergencies, which we’ve fulfilled for more than 140 years. We continue this legacy on a massive scale, impacting more than 20,000 lives daily through our humanitarian mission.   

While part of the largest humanitarian network in the world the Red Cross is also proudly hyperlocal. Last year, your local American Red Cross Northwest Region: 

• Helped nearly 1,800 households affected by over 1,000 disasters, including home fires, wildfires, and winter storms. 
• Delivered over 48,000 units of lifesaving blood to hospitals and cancer treatment centers nationwide.
• Provided over 8,400 critical community services to members of the military, veterans and their families. 
• Trained over 73,500 people in First Aid, CPR & AED, water safety, babysitting and other lifesaving skills.
