About Northwind Art

Northwind Art is based in Port Townsend, Washington, a historic seaport on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, about two hours' drive from Seattle. It is a place that has valued artists and makers for centuries—including the wooden boat builders and artisans who continue to thrive today.

This magical spot, and the natural beauty that surrounds it, feeds artists’ souls and creativity. In 2020, the area stretching from the historic downtown and uptown districts to the Fort Worden campus was officially named the Port Townsend Creative District by the Washington State Arts Commission.

You can find Northwind Art’s Jeanette Best Gallery in the Creative District’s downtown area and Northwind Art School on the Fort Worden State Park campus.

According to ArtsWA's 2023 Report, Washington State is ranked 37th in the United States for arts funding, investing only 68 cents per capita in the arts — much lower than the U.S. average of $2.10. This presents a huge funding challenge for Northwind Art to create arts programming without donor support. Your GiveBIG 2024 donation supports a community rich in the arts and will help to ensure that Northwind can sustain our mission of inclusivity, today and in the future.
